Disinfectants and AFNOR standards

Lhe standard NF EN 14885 defines the European standards that a product must meet in order to claim microbicidal activity:

  1. Bactericidal activity: ability of a product to reduce the number of viable bacterial cells, including the activity tuberculicidecapacity of a product to reduce the number of viable cells in the organism Mycobacterium terrae.
  2. Mycobactericidal activityA product's ability to reduce the number of viable bacterial endospores.
  3. Virucidal activity: a product's ability to reduce the number of infectious particles.

Phase 1 basic standards demonstrate the existence of activity under the most favorable conditions for the product.

The phase 2 application standards attempt to reproduce conditions close to real-life conditions for each application.s conditions. Interfering substances can be used to simulate dirt conditions. In phase 2, stage 1 corresponds to in vitro application standards and stage 2 corresponds to application standards which model a use.
